Vertebral Subluxation
A Vertebral Subluxation (or subluxation) is a misalignment of one or more of the spinal bones causing nerve interference and a loss of overall health.
The causes of subluxation are numerous and can occur at any time.
People often don't seek the help of a chiropractor until they are in pain, to some extent that is human nature. Chiropractors have gotten the reputation of being very effective at pain relief, because very often we can help to reduce pain. However, at Vitality Chiropractic our main emphasis is health. Over a period of time, vertebral subluxation can cause "dis-ease," or lack of health by preventing your body and its various systems (nervous, respiratory, circulatory, digestive, immune, etc.) from performing at their highest potential.
The most serious aspect of the Vertebral Subluxation is the fact that most of them cause no pain or other obvious symptoms while they are causing the bulk of their damage! That means many, many people go for years with subluxations choking their nervous systems, slowly robbing them of their health until their bodies can no longer cope. Only then do their bodies begin to express symptoms.
It is the subluxation that the chiropractor corrects through the Chiropractic adjustment. Simply by gently correcting the subluxations, we remove the interference they cause thus allowing the body to begin the healing process.
What causes Vertebral Subluxation?
Subluxations are caused by any combination of physical, chemical, and emotional (mental) stress..
Physical stress is the cause people think of first. Our first chance to develop a subluxation in life is at birth, then through childhood we have dozens, maybe hundreds more; falling, jumping, crashing, wrestling, as we get older; car accidents, poor posture and work injuries to name just a few.
Chemical stresses are often less obvious. However, living in the Silicon Valley we a exposed to air pollution and other toxins every day that can cause subluxations. Pesticides and food additives contaminate our food and in the process of dealing with these chemical assaults the body can be stressed.
Lastly, mental or emotional stress too can cause subluxations. What physical reaction do you you most commonly associate with emotional stress? MUSCLE TENSION. And when muscles get tense and contract, what in your body do they move? Bones, specifically vertebrae.
These stresses cause our muscles to contract and very often pull our spines out of alignment, putting pressure on nerve systems and thus diminishing our health. In other words causing subluxation
